We’re incredibly proud of Sam Clapham and Blake Thomas, Year 8 students at Downsend, whose flag designs were selected as part of the national UK Polar Network Antarctic Flags Project.
Their work travelled to the Antarctic Peninsula with glaciologists at Rothera Research Station and was even carried on board a Twin Otter aircraft supporting scientific research - an amazing opportunity to see Downsend creativity represented on a truly global stage.
Opportunities like this reflect our commitment to encouraging curiosity, creativity and global thinking, helping our students see how their ideas can reach far beyond the classroom. Well done, Sam and Blake!

What a week it’s been at Downsend as we head into half term.
We’ve marked National Children’s Mental Health Week with BMAZED martial arts workshops and assemblies, celebrated creativity through the Year 5 Poetry Competition, explored art on a Year 3 trip to the National Gallery, enjoyed a French play, and brought energy to the school with Headley House Day and Junior Lunchtime Live to finish off the week.
And that’s just a glimpse - there’s been so much more happening too. Wishing all our families a wonderful half term break.
