Last Friday, March 22nd, we ‘switched off’ at Downsend for one hour! Our amazing Eco Committee—made up of Junior and Senior students—led a school-wide electricity shutdown to reduce energy use and make a real impact.
This initiative is part of their ongoing mission to cut energy consumption. They regularly monitor electricity and gas usage, always finding new ways to protect the planet.
Through the Earth Hour Project, we’re reminded of the power of collective action. From turning off lights and unplugging devices to advocating for renewable energy, small actions create big change in the fight against climate change!
We can’t wait to see what our incredible Eco Team takes on next!

Last Monday, we paid homage to World Maths Day in a big way!
Our students explored the mathematical genius of bees — learning how they use percentages, angles, and shapes to find pollen, store honey, and evaporate water! A huge thank you to Jayne from @growcookenjoy for leading this interactive and inspiring session! And we were thrilled to welcome Mrs. Johnston, our new Head of Junior School, to our morning celebrations!
Our Juniors and teachers showcased their problem-solving skills by creating their own math riddles and collaborating to solve complex codes.
Inspired by Wassily Kandinsky’s 1913 masterpiece Colour Study: Squares with Concentric Circles, students explored circle properties like radius, diameter, and circumference. They discussed how concentric circles appear when a stone is dropped into water and even created their own stunning circle-inspired art!
Such a fun and educational way to celebrate the beauty of maths!
